TheGreatestWant (Pty) Ltd · Midrand, South Africa

We are a different company.

TGW designs solutions and software architecture for institutions that serve the public. Our systems manage the infrastructure, projects, and portfolios that ordinary people depend on — and our purpose runs deeper than profit.

Our manifesto

  • We are a different company. Not built to chase valuations or exits — built to solve hard, unglamorous problems for the institutions that hold a country together.
  • We are not here to be billionaires. Profit keeps the lights on and the team paid. It funds the mission — it will never replace it.
  • We are here to make a difference. When a public works project is delivered on time because our system caught the slippage early, that difference reaches a school, a clinic, a road.
  • We make the poor enriched. We direct skills, income, and opportunity toward the communities that growth usually passes by — enrichment measured in capability, not just currency.
  • We make the young productive. Interns sit inside real delivery teams, on real government systems, from day one. We turn potential into working software — and graduates into professionals.

What we do

Enterprise systems for the institutions people depend on

We turn slow, paper-bound processes into digital workflows that people actually use — and we stay long enough to see them used.

Solutions design

We take a department’s real operating problems apart — project management, operations and maintenance, portfolio and programme management — and design systems that fit how people actually work.

Software architecture

Enterprise-grade delivery on a K2, SharePoint, and .NET stack: business process automation, workflow, and reporting built to survive years of production use in government environments.

Growing people

Every project is also a classroom. Analysts, developers, and interns grow inside the delivery team — because building capable people is as much our product as building software.

Featured work

Built for the Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure — the system through which a provincial infrastructure portfolio is planned, tracked, and accounted for.

One record, from planning to close-out

Every project in the portfolio moves through the same gated lifecycle, with the specification, the appointment and the variation held against it — so the question “what was decided, and when?” has an answer.

The problem

Infrastructure programmes tracked across disconnected spreadsheets and paper files, where slippage only became visible after it had already cost a delivery date.

What we built

An IDMS-aligned portfolio system on K2 and SharePoint: project lifecycle workflow, documentation control, and reporting that reconciles to the infrastructure programme.

Where it stands

Now in its third phase, with the scope widening across the department’s project and maintenance portfolio.

Why it matters

The difference is measured downstream

Purpose before profit

We measure success by whether public infrastructure gets planned, maintained, and delivered better — not by the wealth our work accumulates.

Systems that serve millions

When a provincial department manages its portfolio well, the benefit lands in communities: facilities maintained, projects completed, budgets accounted for.

A ladder for the young

From intern to developer to architect — we build the ladder inside our own teams, so that the next generation of South African engineers is trained on work that matters.
