What is the greatest want — the deepest need — of the country we work in? The company is named after the answer, and organised around it.
Our story
TheGreatestWant (Pty) Ltd was registered in 2012 and works from President Park, Midrand. We build enterprise systems for South African public institutions — the departments responsible for the schools, clinics, roads, and facilities that ordinary people use without ever thinking about the software behind them.
That work is deliberately unglamorous. It is workflow, documentation control, portfolio reporting, and the discipline of getting a process to survive contact with a real organisation. We took it on because it is where a system either serves the public well or quietly fails them, and because too few builders want the job.
The name is a commitment rather than a slogan. Profit keeps the lights on and the team paid; it funds the mission and does not replace it. What we are actually accumulating is capability — in the institutions we serve, and in the young people we train inside our own delivery teams.
Our manifesto
- We are a different company. Not built to chase valuations or exits — built to solve hard, unglamorous problems for the institutions that hold a country together.
- We are not here to be billionaires. Profit keeps the lights on and the team paid. It funds the mission — it will never replace it.
- We are here to make a difference. When a public works project is delivered on time because our system caught the slippage early, that difference reaches a school, a clinic, a road.
- We make the poor enriched. We direct skills, income, and opportunity toward the communities that growth usually passes by — enrichment measured in capability, not just currency.
- We make the young productive. Interns sit inside real delivery teams, on real government systems, from day one. We turn potential into working software — and graduates into professionals.
